Lifting up … then down …

Flexinol wire can exhibit an astonishing grace when it lifts up with current and then relaxes without. I find this movement particularly elegant when the piece of fabric (with flexinol stitched in) is suspended. Then, the action of lifting up with current then slowly releasing without is most balletic.

Twist Switch

Through the action of twisting, swatches of conductive fabric are folded in upon each other, completing a circuit that then turns on LEDs.

Color Changing Pleats

The capacity for fabric to change color is an exciting opportunity to articulate select surfaces of a constructed piece of material. What has already been materially manipulated via sewing techniques can be further enhanced by the “magic effect” of thermochromic ink and heated thread.
